Assistant Produce Manager – Job Description

- Responsible for modeling and maintaining a high level of customer service where customers are the number one department priority
- Replenish shelves with fresh - prepared merchandise. Maintain work area observing company’s safety rules and guidelines.
- To know the department and have a positive attitude toward customers.
- Assume responsibility for the operation of the department in the absence of the manager.
- Unload produce goods from trucks.
- Unpack cartons and crates of merchandise.
- Verify quantity and freshness of items received.
- Store - rotate and date merchandise in produce storage rooms and coolers.
- Prepare - trim and wrap items such as strawberries - lettuce - and corn.
- Rotate - inspect products and stock displays with new merchandise.
- Examine shelves to identify which items need to be replenished.
- Work back stock to reduce inventory.
- Ability to write clearly on a set signage system quickly and effectively.
- Build product displays to attract customers.
- Respond to questions about produce (ie. How to select and cook them; where produce is grown and when it is in season, etc.).
- Clean and maintain work area - equipment and display cases.
- Respond to customer requests - be patient and pleasant with customers.
- Working knowledge of company’s policies and guidelines as outlined in the Nature’s Pantry Employee Handbook and Orientation Handbook.
- Knowledge of department - its products and produce stocking procedures.
- Working in often hot or cold temperatures and in an atmosphere that is always busy.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Nature’s Pantry Produce Department operations and procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Cheerfully respond to all customer requests no matter how small.
- Be a creative problem solver.
- Ask if you can help take the customer to the product.
One-on-one interaction with every customer within 10 feet of you. Smile and greet every customer with genuine feeling. - Everyone is thanked and sincerely invited back.
- Make the customer feel like this is has been the best shopping experience for them.
- Independent mobility within the department.
- Standing for up to eight hours at a time.
- Occasionally stooping or crouching to reach merchandise in display and/or stock area.
- Manual dexterity to handle merchandise.
- Finger dexterity to handle cleaning and prepping of produce and papers.
- Ability to effectively communicate with customers and coworkers.
- Vision sufficient to select/stock merchandise and read labels.
- Strength to lift - push - or pull objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Experience in related job helpful.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Must have neat appearance and good communication skills.
- Ready to work and in uniform. Name tag on and shirt tucked in.
- Report to work on a regular and timely basis as scheduled.
- Work schedule requirements include may include nights and weekends.

- Previous computer skills are required. Should have basic knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and internet.
